Snowzilla Gate - Seven Snowmen Protesting Outside Anchorage City hall

In: Snowzilla Articles

25 Dec 2008

It seems that in support of the cause of snowzilla a few snowman have taken to the streets, utilizing their constitutional rights to express their opinions vocally.  Indeed, it can be seen that 7 very angry snowman are currently picketing outside of the entrance to Anchorage’s city hall.  Their chants were difficult to understand because I don’t speak ’snow’ but their english signs were apparently in support of their distant 25 foot tall cousin snowzilla, whom the Anchorage governmental officials have demanded must be torn down.  They have vowed to continue demonstrating their support and love for their fellow snowman snowzilla.
Here are some pictures that I snapped as I saw them outside.
Enjoy!

I love the little signs. “Stevens for Mayor” -LOL I hope things stay cold. I think everybody should build a snowman in their own front yard, as a show of support!! It doesn’t have to be 25 feet tall. Get your kids to help out, be a family- it’s Christmas… Personally I’m really sick of the government telling me what to do with my own property. No unregistered vehicles parked in your driveway, always wear your seatbelt, extra taxes etc. It seems like small freedoms are slipping away a little more everyday. Obviously you don’t want your neighbor turning his house into a junkyard, but being festive is a good thing in my book.

FREEDOM FOR SNOWZILLA, I think people in Iraq would love a snow ambasador, heck they would just love a snowball.Think of all the things we sometimes take for granted! We would love snowzilla here in Texas where it was 82degrees today,(a record).

Lets put a 15 foot snow man on every corner of city hall they can’t stop freedom of speech can they?? I hope Mark enjoys his short stay in Washington. I can’t believe this is what he wants to be remembered by, as the mayor who banned snowmen. We will see how long he stays in office with that attitude. The problem here is all it takes is a person to complain that someone has too many lights up and the city will stop that as well. Lets just ban all Christmas decorations thats where we are headed. Baaa humbug .. I guess the mayor never read the copy of Animal Farm I gave him and the Assembly.

Anchorage city hall is a scrooge. I love the protesters. This is almost as bad as the horse in Hickman Nebraska. When will these city governments get a clue? or a life?

I can’t believe the city is allowing some crack pot to put 2 wrecked cars encased in ice on the park strip and call it art & then turn around and ban a 25 foot snowman. Clearly their sense of art is warped… Lets all go to the park strip and built 1000 snowmen there!!!

If ya don’t like the snow(men) move to Florida or Tennessee. But don’t come to Minnesota. Snowmen of all kinds are welcome here. Just don’t try to marry one. All the good snowmen are gone (by spring).

Build it… as a temporary structure there should be a provision of the city code you can cite to support your right to build a snowman and turn the bureaucracy back on itself.

I cannot believe I just typed that sentence (or a situation where it would be applicable!).

Done! $4.57 will be going Mr. Powers’ way for cocoa for the munchkins! I didn’t know what to do with that “leftover” Christmas money, and this is a good way to pass it along to a good, festive, season-oriented “cause”!! I encourage all to do the same, if you have a few bucks left on a giftcard and don’t know what to do with it! Please note that I think Paypal took a buck for itself (hey, they shouldn’t have to take a loss for the convenience they provide!), so please calculate that into your figures. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah (?????? for all you purists), Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Festivus, Happy Dies Natalis Invicti Solis, and Happy whatever else that I can’t remember right now, and of course Happy New Year, and, once again, Power to the Snowpeople!!

See above by Happy Hanukkah - Those weren’t supposed to be question marks - I had found the Hebrew for Hanukkah and had put that in, but it came out as question marks - I hope it didn’t offend anyone, I was going for quite the opposite!

omg i just had to google the art on the park strip! they said they are wrecked cars but they are still beautiful. They also claim they want people to get outdoors and enjoy the winter weather. How much more enjoyable can you get than a HUGE snowman?!! Thank you nannette rose.

Love the picketers! Just have to say congrats on keeping the Snowzilla up and it looks great! You’ll have to let your city council know that this is producing a fair bit of press for your city, so they shoudn’t be complaining.

Here’s to Snowzilla. We’re from NC so we wish we had the snow to make our own Snowzilla. Here’s hoping the powers that be in Anchorage will lighten up.

Snowzilla ROCKS!!! What a fantastic draw for the city and state! Maybe Gov. Palin could save Snowzilla by declaring him an endangered species? Good Luck!!!

I photographed these Little Zillas early on their birthday morning before some Grinchy Anchorage City Hall Security Guard kicked ‘em to the curb. Talk about NO IMAGININATION or sense of humor! If the Grinch in question had a brain, he/she’d have flipped the signs over and written a few opposing messages on their back sides. Then the Little Zillas could have remained in place and posed as City Workers for the holidays. Bah humbug Anchorage City Hall!

Snowzilla is awsome! Someone should seriously let the town’s mayor know that Snowzilla is helping put Ankorage on the map GLOBALLY - most people here just knew it was some frigid place in Alaska!!! Go Snowzilla!!!!
